Are you looking for something fun to do with your kids? Well, I found one of the best things to do that isn’t to expensive and will bring a smile to your face. That is Deer Farm Petting Zoo.
My name is Sarah and I am one of the moms on the Smoky Mountain Moms Blog. We love to tell you about our experiences we have done in the area. Me and Stephanie, the other mom on the site, are locals in the Smoky Mountains. We both have small kids who love to be active and are always on the go. We hope you will check out more blog posts on this site and it can help you with planning your trip to the mountains
I have heard of this place for many years and went to the petting zoo many years ago as a kid myself but now that I am an adult with 2 little ones. I wanted to take them back here and see how they would do.
Deer Farm Petting Zoo in located in Sevierville away from all the hustle and bustle of the other attractions. They are at Happy Hollow Lane off the 411 highway as if going towards Newport. It is maybe 15 mins from downtown Sevierville.
I felt like this zoo was priced great! Tickets start at $15 for adults kids ages 3-12 years old are $10 and if under 2 years old are $1 and get this… if under 12 months old just pay 0.9 cents!! Be sure to check their site to see if prices have changed or give them a call. Locals do get a great discount as well as they have some coupons on their site anyone can use.
This location is wheel chair and stroller friendly with lots of ramps to get in and out of the main building easily.
Once we got there, we looked around the gift shop and bought our tickets. You definitely need to get a treat cup to feed the animals. That is a best part. You are able to feed, goats, deer, camels and more! My kids were 2 and 4 at the time and they talked about this place for many months after we went.
You do get to go inside the pins to feed the goats, sheep and deer. The Deer pin was one of my personal favorites. Mostly because that is so unique. When there are a lot of people there feeding them, they do tend to get pretty excited about the food. Once the people went away and they were calmer, I took the kids inside the pin. I was surprised how peaceful it was for the kids. They pet the deer and had a great time seeing them.
I tried to play a game with the kids as to who could get the silliest picture with an animal. This photo with the horses was my favorite. They were so funny asking us for food. The place even gave us some apples to feed them. They loved all the treats and food.
We spent close to 2 hours at this attraction and laughed so much. We took so many photos and made the best memories. My kids could have stayed for several more hours but we were getting hungry. I should have packed a lunch and had a picnic at their picnic tables out front but I know to do that next time.
They have all the animals pretty close to one another so you don’t have a ton of walking. They are in a circle so you can make your loop around a few times and see them as much as you like.
We did notice they have pony rides and horse back riding available. I couldn’t take my daughter who was 4 due to coming alone and no one to watch my 2 year old son but we will be going back to have her try it. I like that the price is very reasonable of just $10 for a pony ride. They had a small circle trail the parent can walk with their kid around the path.
They also allow to get a full refund on your child’s pony ride if they decide to chicken out. We all know your kid is brave to do something until it comes time and then it’s a hard “NO!” so I like that about this place.
We made some wonderful and fun memories. The animals were cute and we got to see so many unique ones as well.
